Colour Riot

Those who follow/read my blog will know that I love colours.  As a fashion-lover, I am always looking to incorporate big, bold, beautiful colours in my wardrobe. Needless to say, colour blocking is one of my favourite fashion trends. Colour blocking is all about taking three or four colours and mixing it together. The trick here is to not go overboard and stick to a maximum of four colours. But how do you decide which colours to use? Take a colour wheel (see below) and create an ensemble with complementary colours (shades from opposite sides of the wheel), monochromatic colors (the same color in different shades), neutral colors (white, black, grays, and browns) or analogous colors (shades neighbouring each other on the color wheel). I also try and make sure that a combination is shocking yet pleasing to the eyes.

Spring-Summer 2013 has given a fresh take on this trend. There were some interesting colour combinations on the run-way. From Mustard with Coral to Emerald with Turquoise. Clearly, the possibilities are endless. On that happy note, here’s how I’ve personalised this trend.

Here, I’ve paired hot pink with navy keeping in mind my shocking+pleasing mantra. I’ve added a third colour–dull gold–for shoes and accessories and have used a grey bag to “neutralise” the whole look.

Don’t be afraid to use bright, bold colours like hot pink. Bright colours will take you through AW’13 to Summer ’14.

So, did that convince you to use more colour or is it too daring a trend? C’mon step out of your comfort zone and see the magic unfolding.
