Call it anticipation for Spring but of late one colour that has caught my attention is Orange. Unsurprisingly, orange is also the new red lipstick for SS14. From Tangerine to hot neon, the colour orange is definitely taking “loud mouths” to a whole new level of cool. Interestingly, the ultimate screen siren Elizabeth Taylor started this trend way back in 1963 in her film–the V.I.Ps where she sported a bright orange lipstick and today everyone from Drew Barrymore to my current girl crush– Lupita Nyong’o are wearing this shade. But is this trend suitable for us ordinary mortals? I try to find out.
To give this trend my own personal touch, I decided to pair my orange lips with orange nails. I have used (as you can see) Revlon Colorstay Nail Enamel in Sunburst 95 and Barry M’s Lip lacquer in Mandarin.
Orange lipstick is definitely not for the faint-hearted. It has a certain edge which means you need oodles of confidence to pull it during day time. But, once you have got used to this shade it is surprisingly a great look for both day and night. I have opted for a budget option here as I was not sure if this colour will suit me or not but I will definitely be splashing out at Mac ;).
The key to nail this look is to not go OTT. I have just used a very thin line of black kohl and whilst I rarely go matchy-matchy, here I loved pairing it with orange nails.
My verdict: A big yes. Give your pinks and reds a rest this season and go orange. But yes try out with different shades before you find your perfect orange.
