The stretch mark issue

Most pregnant women worry about their changing bodies, weight gain and stretch marks not necessarily in that order. I casually asked some of my pregnant friends and it seems stretch marks is a great worry for most; so here I’ve road tested two products and see which one works better. Stretch marks are very common in the general population and don’t just affect pregnant women. They usually happen whenever the skin is stretched, for instance when we’re growing during puberty or when putting on or losing weight; hormonal changes in pregnancy definitely affects our skin and make us more prone to stretch marks.

I have not had any new ones on my abdomen till now but I must confess I have stretch marks on my hips and thighs thanks to my yo-yo dieting years, abusing and disrespecting my body, emotional eating, finally getting my head straight and losing a good amount of weight etc. To be very honest, I am not too concerned about stretch marks because have you ever seen a tigress without her stripes? Yes, I have always considered myself to be tigress 😉

Before I start my review here are few things that I think has helped me to keep newer stretch marks at bay: eating small portions and as healthy as my cravings allow, drinking plenty of water, walking and doing pregnancy yoga whenever my energy levels permit me.

I was initially using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter lotion as I had it even before I found out I was pregnant. I tend to have drier skin during winter and Palmer’s seriously gave it a good moisturing kick. It is rich, smells great and has ingredients like collagen and elastin; these ingredients hydrate your skin and keep it supple. On that front, I give Palmer’s a rating of 9 out of 10. But does it really reduce your stretch marks? I am afraid no. Although I was applying it super generously, I saw absolutely no improvement. I must mention I did not use it with the intention of reducing my previous stretch marks but thought why not?

Bio Oil Review

A friend of mine suggested Bio Oil and I picked it up with trepidation when I was mid-way in my second trimester. I had no hope in hell that this would help; as I have mentioned previously I have made peace with all my flaws. So, you can imagine my surprise when the long pink lines which had accumulated over the years started becoming lighter!! I am definitely happy with this product and even though I have not been too religious with applying it twice a day daily; I am happy with the results.

Bio-Oil contains Vitamin A & E, Calendula, Lavender and Rosemary oils, and Chamomile extract; all super-good for your skin. It has a refreshing yet not over powering smell and even though it is oil; it absorbs quite quickly. I also use Bio Oil for linea nigra and even on my face at times when I get that odd breakout and once again bio oil seems to be working for both these issues. I don’t think Bio Oil (or for that matter anything else) can magically make your stretch marks disappear but it is making my old ones lighter each day and not yet giving me new ones; so obviously this is my pregnancy hero in a bottle.

Hope you enjoyed these honest reviews. I have not been sponsored by anyone to do this post. Thanks for reading 🙂

I used Bio-Oil during all 9 months of my pregnancy and I have no stretch marks! To be honest I am not sure if the oil was the reason that I did not get the stretch marks. May be getting or not getting the marks depends on the elasticity of the skin. I just did not want to take a risk of not using the oil 😉

Yes, same here. I have heard a lot of it depends on your genes too. But yes of all the products in the market including some really expensive ones; this has been the best 🙂
