Layered

“And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers.”—Miranda Priestly, Devil Wears Prada

Fashion has often been disregarded as capitalism’s ugly side and pandering to vanity. It often surprises me how many people hide their love for fashion just because they do not want to be seen superficial. As a fashion lover and style aficionado, I have always considered fashion and style as an art form. Master couturiers like Alexander McQueen, Oscar De La Renta and Vivienne Westwood have proven that it requires great amount of skill, precision and imagination to make beautiful clothes whilst at the same time one of my favourite fashionistas the uber cool Michelle Obama has shown that fashion is both political and social. Bottom line is, as one of my favourite icons Coco Chanel said (and the subtitle of this blog goes), “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion has to do with ideas.”

Speaking of ideas, I am always pondering about how I can use my summer dresses in the winter months. I am still trying to master the layered look. I have been looking for ways to make this dress from here suitable for me now in the winter months. This is actually my maternity dress and whilst I burnt and danced around in all my other maternity dresses (not really!) I kept this one as I worship the pencil silhouette. After a few clever nips and tucks, I have made it wearable for my postpartum body. I have layered it with an old sweatshirt. Truth be told, I am not a sweatshirt kind of girl. I am just not but seeing that it can be worn over dresses; I am slowly opening to them. To add a bit of pizzazz to the look, I have used my navy heels from this post and kept my hair in a messy pony with natural face. I have used my Zara bag from the same post whilst the earrings are from this post.

As stated, style is a language with which you speak to the world. I feel only a handful of other forms of art inspire daily life as fashion and style does. It is an abstract form of art which turns into reality with your creativity, personalization and imagination. So go ahead and break the rules, make more rules and let your imagination dance wildly because fashion, my dear friends, really is in the ideas.
