Twice every year, London’s grandest neoclassical structure Somerset House, gears up to welcome a maelstrom of fashion designers and models dressed in their finest frocks. The fashion frenzy might be over but editors, bloggers and street stylists are diligently sharing notes on what would keep us stylishly ahead this autumn winter. Here are my top picks that I cannot wait to try and personalise in the coming months.
The 70s continued to rock the runway. Topshop, Burberry and Matthew Williamson were some of the names who took us back to the era. But it was not just the 70s, fashion bigwigs continued to take inspiration from nostalgic yesteryears as you will see below.
Who would have thought that childhood games like snakes & ladders and candy land could transition into designer fashion? But that’s exactly what designer Peter Pilotto’s AW2015 showcased. The imaginative and playful collection comprising dresses, skirts and outerwear (to name a few) put popular games from 1980s in the fashion map. This collection is the perfect reason to celebrate the kid in you.
Each season certain materials become the darling thing in style circles. This season designers have put materials like PVC, shearling and velvet on the fashion radar. The sedate PVC was turned into jaw-dropping skirts, trousers and even coats by the likes of Topshop and JW Anderson while shearling was turned into candy coloured teddy bear ensembles by Burberry and Roksanda Illincic. Designer Emilio de la Morena gave an inventive spin to velvet.
A throwback to Western movies perhaps, fringe reigned supremely everywhere. From names like Julien Macdonald to Burberry, it was clear that fringe is a trend that will continue to benefit us all. The high street has already adapted this trend so there is no denial that this look will rule the roost this year.
New York Fashion week cemented the humble polo neck’s reputation as the “it” knit of the season but London added a gamut of ribbed-knit styles in bright and neutral shades that will keep us stylishly cosy during winter.
Hope you enjoyed this post. Have a great week ahead. Do show me your love with your likes and comments and don’t forget to follow me. 🙂
