“Only great minds can afford a simple style–Stendhal”

Every once in a while, the perfect maxi dress that ticks all the boxes, makes an appearance. When I saw this dress in H &M (that too on sale), I knew I had to have it.

Must have Dress: Maxi dress style

Being 5’4, it is not very easy for me to find a maxi dress which does not drag and always requires heels. So, in my eyes this was already a winner. With its beautiful blooms design, side slits and noodle straps–my favourite detail–this style is perfect of you want a casual dress with some oomph to it.

I have kept it simple here with my trusty golden flats from here, statement earrings and a bracelet. But it can also be worn as evening wear with a well-structured jacket, clutch, heels and statement necklace like choker. And if you are worried about your arms then just add a lace cardigan or a bolero.

If you like me are one of those who make full-use of the last few days of summer, then stay put, this post is especially for you. Surprisingly, UK has seen a rather glorious summer this year (given the usual meh standards) and though we are nearing September it still looks promising. If you are looking for ideas to spend with the family for the next few days (or are bookmarking ideas for next year) then here are few:

Mayfield Lavender Farm, Surrey:

There is something gloriously luxurious about the calming fragrance of Lavender wafting through the air and 25 acres of beautiful lavender blooms filling your senses. This summer, this has been one of my favourite activities. The Mayfield Lavender Farm is a must place if you would just like to spend a great day amidst beautiful Lavender flowers and go crazy taking photographs. This place is certainly buzzing with photographers (and posers alike). And whilst there is not much to do it definitely can be a great outdoor activity. The Lavender Farm is only open till September 14 so hurry. (Outfit details).

Berry Picking:

Bomber Jacket Fashion

This activity has been our favourite activity this year. Who knew that picking strawberries and other berries could be so therapeutic. I honestly do not know who enjoyed this activity the most: me or the toddler? There are several strawberry picking farms in UK, my pick is the West Green Fruits in Hampshire (Hartley Whitney): a beautiful 20 acre area where you can pick not just strawberries but raspberries, rhubarbs, black currants and a host of other veggies. Just be mindful as this is a seasonal activity, if you have not done it yet, you might have to wait for another year (but I promise it is worth the wait).

Littlehampton Beach, Sussex

IMG_20160605_214642

Beach is synonymous with summer and once again an activity that knows no limit. There are several beaches in and around Hampshire from West Wittering, Bognor Regis and South Sea Pebble Beach. Litthampton beach tucked away in Litthehampton is a sand and shingle beach boasting of a bustling marina and harbour and a brilliant contemporary architecture. Play with your little one(s) on the beach building sand castles, put your feet up in the marina area or enjoy a nice grub in the plethora of restaurants here. Littlehampton beach definitely has something for everyone and you will not regret driving down to here. (Outfit details)

Stressed. Depressed. But well dressed–Anonymous

Who would have ever thought that a thing once considered a big fashion no-no would become an ubiquitous trend almost overnight? I am talking about the shirt dress over jeans trend that seems to have swept street style mavericks and Instagrammers. After sitting on the fence for a long time, I too have jumped in this wagon. At first glance, this look seems intimidating and too fashion-y to be pulled off in real life. But here, I will show that this look is easy to achieve and with a dollop of fun (not to mention) ease to it.

Shirt dress over jeans style

In theory the idea of pairing a calf length dress with jeans should not work but as you can see it does. The trick here is to play with proportions, colour and style. The easiest (and in my book the best) way to nail this look is to pair a light weight shirt dress with skinny jeans.

Add nifty accessories like a bracelet, rings, flats and oversized glasses and you have got an effortless casual yet chic style. This look does not have to be casual though, add heels, ripped jeans, a statement jacket and super cute bag (like a geometric clutch) and you have a look for the evening.

Shirtdress+Jeans: Debenhams (also like this one), Flats: India, Accessories: Tenerife/Dubai, Glasses: Hubby’s

I have opted for a casual look here because this was a day trip to Lavender Fields in Surrey (Near London) (More on that later) but I cannot wait to try the night time look to see how I can glam up the humble shirt dress.

A special thanks to my friend Sai for taking some of the photos here and as always my dear hubby as well :0)

Be so good, they can’t ignore you: Steve Martin

I think I speak for all womankind, when I confess that even the best fashionista gets stumped whilst choosing the perfect bridesmaid dress. I mean forget the usual concerns about fit and style, there are zillion other things to think of! Can we opt for ivory /white? Should it be long and flowing or short, simple and chic? Is it long enough or too long? Is it too short?

When I saw this blush pink dress (in TK Maxx) I knew I have found the perfect bridesmaid dress. There is something ethereal about the blush pink colour that you simply cannot ignore. Add to it, the spiffy lace details which gives it a romantic feel.

I have kept the accessories minimal. Golden earrings, bangles, statement necklace and floral headband. I have opted for rose gold heels. Simplicity as they is the key to sophistication and this kind of style brims with both.

Recently, a LA Playboy model Dani Mathers came under fire (and some) for snap chatting an image of an unknown bystander. She captioned it “If I can’t unsee this then you can’t either”. And then she goes on covering her mouth in mockery. Her photo is under investigation and she has since lost her modelling role as well as several lucrative deals. The whole fracas made me wonder, why as a society are we so obsessed with thinness?

If you follow my blog and social media accounts you would know I am a gym rat. However, my reasons for working out and staying healthy is different. To find what other women feel, I spoke to three different women to find out what is healthy and what is fitness.

Arjabi Thapa:

US based Arjabi is a fitness guru like no one else. Her training videos will kick your butt and then some more. You can check out her blog here.

“Three years ago when I stepped into the gym to workout, like any other newbie  gym intimidation crept in. I kind of caved in some way or the other , totally unsure of what to do and how to do it. I remember this one incident where I was using overhead  press machine and my back was not rested on the bench completely and somebody came and told me I would hurt myself. I was embarrassed , yet acted as if I am completely oblivious to the situation I was in- Thats how slowly yet steadily, I crawled and started my fitness journey. I worked out regularly and saw the scale budge rapidly in the beginning  and 30 lbs less in about a year’s time wasn’t less than a feat, but after that I plateaued so if it was just the scale that defined my notion of fitness, I prolly would have given up long time back.It isn’t what kept me going. Its the air of confidence that fitness had instilled in me. Its as if I was looking at my image in a new light. Its the strength and endurance improvement. Its the life lesson about patience and dedication. Three years later, things I couldnt do in the past, I do with ease now. There is so much to learn , so much to grow and endless  avenues to unravel and fitness is my biggest teacher. I might not be size zero nor strongest of all but I am getting stronger by the day and thats all that matters. So, fitness if I have to sum up is a friend that taught me to leap when I was barely crawling, the strict teacher who disciplined me to work harder, the mentor who taught me to strive to be better than I am today. So I am forever thankful!”

Shilpa Chandravanshi:

Idaho based working mum, Shilpa’s instagram page gives me serious fitness envy. If weekly exercising is not enough, her weekend activities comprising hiking, walking and doing other activities with her family will seriously help you re-consider your fitness goals.

“Being fit means being fit, and not being fat or thin or anything like that. People exercise to have a fit body and to avoid any health issues. For me exercise is my “me” time. I love that and can’t let go of it ever as it helps build my confidence and let out any stress. It doesn’t matter what body you have, all that matters is you are exercising. I get so infuriated by all the body shaming and most of it is imbibed by marketing a the body image. You don’t have to go zero figure to be fit, neither an anorexic person is fit. It doesn’t matter what size you are, you don’t have to be a hot figure to be working out. YOU WORKOUT TO BE FIT, period.”

Mridula Kaul:

Mridula, my beloved friend and another working mama, is one determined person. Her consistency and go-get attitude is something I always look up to.

IMG-20160725-WA0003Fitness means a lifestyle change for me, it means me taking control of my life again and feeling and looking like a better version of me not just for my family but for myself

I want to be able to look at myself and say, yeah you look fit girl, you look toned and healthy. I know I will never be skinny so that’s the best I can do :). ”

Me:

IMG_20160704_154354

I often quip that I only workout for getting back into my pre baby dresses. The Red dress I have worn here was last worn here.  Whilst I admit, vanity is one of the reasons it is not the only one or for that matter the most important. I workout because I want to honour this beautiful body I have got, which helped me make another human being, which helped me deliver it and which helped me to nourish it as well. The benefits of regular exercise is more than just having a size zero, it makes you stronger, healthier and dare I say happier. Exercise is the best stress buster and cheapest therapy.

At the same time, I also want my daughter to not have the same body images issues I had growing up and understand the beauty and strength of her body. giving up hence is not an option.

When I hear news like the Playboy one it makes me angry not only was it a gross violation of someone’s privacy but claims that unless you are pathetically thin and anorexic you are not fit or beautiful. This mentality has to change. And I am glad people stood up and made the right noises against the model because we all know we have enough critiques in this world and not enough encouragers.

So, why do you work out? Do you think fitness is only about thinness or is strong really the new sexy. Do let me know your thoughts.

I would like to thank my friends featured here with all the gratitude. Thanks for taking time for me and I hope you appreciate my little effort.
