If you’ve been following my blog, you will notice that I am vehement about promoting positive body image. It is natural to feel a bit lost when it comes to pregnancy and style when your body is a cocktail of hormones and growing every single day but I insist dear ladies (and gentlemen) it is a wonderful journey which will make you respect your body more than before.

My tips to embrace style in pregnancy and be the chic mum? Stretch fabrics, playing around with colour and most importantly a confidence that you are nothing less than a Goddess. Here are some of the popular looks, I’ve experimented with throughout these 36 weeks.

Tousled or Mermaid Waves were frequently show cased in several SS14 shows like Mulberry and Versace. I absolutely adore this look as it is laid-back and carefree written all over it. Yes, there are many ways to achieve the perfectly imperfect tousled waves using a plethora on curling irons and what-nots. But I am the lazy girl with absolutely no patience for curling irons (plus the fact I never can get them right ;)). So, I have an easy-peasy solution for getting this style with cascading waves.

For starters, I massaged my hair with almond and olive oil both known to nourish and moisture hair. After keeping it for an hour (longer the better), I washed it off with John Frieda’s smooth start shampoo and conditioner (you can use any good shampoo/conditioner for wavy/curly hair). After towel drying my hair for about ten minutes, I applied a dollop of their Unwind Curls Calming Creme (again this is what I’ve at the moment, you can use any). Blow dry your hair roughly and make it about 60% dry. Make two pigtails or one big plait depending on what kind of waves you want. Leave it overnight or for 5-6 hours.

The next day (or after 6 hours), gingerly take out your plaits and finger comb your hair puffing it little near the crown. Voila! You and your uber-cool tousled waves are now ready.

My verdict: This is perhaps my all-time favourite hairstyles simply because it so easy to pull-off and I know for a fact that everyone gives you a second look (for good reasons) in this hair style. This is my I-am-too-cool care look and hence this trend definitely wins hands down ;).

Lo and behold, after a rather long wait I finally find myself amidst the ninth month of pregnancy. I admit dressing up a nine month bump is tough especially when the weather is taunting you endlessly giving you sunshine one moment only to disappear under a cloud of grey skies the next. My mantra: layering and comfy harem pants. Add a pair of kitten hills and some accessories and you are every bit of yummy-mummy to be 😉

Yes, I am also much bigger than I ever was but it is actually not bothering so much because there are so many better experiences to look forward to than getting sad over the growing scale numbers.  I firmly keep telling myself, “big girl you are beautiful.” And to all the girls who are going through what I am going through keep telling yourself–you are beautiful 😉

Most pregnant women worry about their changing bodies, weight gain and stretch marks not necessarily in that order. I casually asked some of my pregnant friends and it seems stretch marks is a great worry for most; so here I’ve road tested two products and see which one works better. Stretch marks are very common in the general population and don’t just affect pregnant women. They usually happen whenever the skin is stretched, for instance when we’re growing during puberty or when putting on or losing weight; hormonal changes in pregnancy definitely affects our skin and make us more prone to stretch marks.

I have not had any new ones on my abdomen till now but I must confess I have stretch marks on my hips and thighs thanks to my yo-yo dieting years, abusing and disrespecting my body, emotional eating, finally getting my head straight and losing a good amount of weight etc. To be very honest, I am not too concerned about stretch marks because have you ever seen a tigress without her stripes? Yes, I have always considered myself to be tigress 😉

Before I start my review here are few things that I think has helped me to keep newer stretch marks at bay: eating small portions and as healthy as my cravings allow, drinking plenty of water, walking and doing pregnancy yoga whenever my energy levels permit me.

I was initially using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter lotion as I had it even before I found out I was pregnant. I tend to have drier skin during winter and Palmer’s seriously gave it a good moisturing kick. It is rich, smells great and has ingredients like collagen and elastin; these ingredients hydrate your skin and keep it supple. On that front, I give Palmer’s a rating of 9 out of 10. But does it really reduce your stretch marks? I am afraid no. Although I was applying it super generously, I saw absolutely no improvement. I must mention I did not use it with the intention of reducing my previous stretch marks but thought why not?

Bio Oil Review

A friend of mine suggested Bio Oil and I picked it up with trepidation when I was mid-way in my second trimester. I had no hope in hell that this would help; as I have mentioned previously I have made peace with all my flaws. So, you can imagine my surprise when the long pink lines which had accumulated over the years started becoming lighter!! I am definitely happy with this product and even though I have not been too religious with applying it twice a day daily; I am happy with the results.

Bio-Oil contains Vitamin A & E, Calendula, Lavender and Rosemary oils, and Chamomile extract; all super-good for your skin. It has a refreshing yet not over powering smell and even though it is oil; it absorbs quite quickly. I also use Bio Oil for linea nigra and even on my face at times when I get that odd breakout and once again bio oil seems to be working for both these issues. I don’t think Bio Oil (or for that matter anything else) can magically make your stretch marks disappear but it is making my old ones lighter each day and not yet giving me new ones; so obviously this is my pregnancy hero in a bottle.

Hope you enjoyed these honest reviews. I have not been sponsored by anyone to do this post. Thanks for reading 🙂
