Elegance is the only beauty that never fades: Audrey Hepburn

Every year, the fashion circles makes a certain colour their favourite. This year power pink and mellow yellow has taken the centre stage. Earlier this year, Yellow lit up the Golden Globe awards when Viola Davis, Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon sashayed this bright hue on the red carpet.  At the Runway, we saw Cate Blanchett in Valentino, Rosamund Pike in Alexander McQueen all strutting in Yellow. Before we knew it, Yellow became the favourite colour of bloggers and style mavericks alike.

For ages, women have held this colour with suspicion as a hue which is difficult to pull off. And does little to their natural skin tone. But now the table has turned. And women across the spectrum have realised that there is whole gamut of yellow shades that will help them to serve the sunny side up.

Personally, yellow is a colour that I feel can instantly brighten up your mood and your wardrobe. It reminds me of sun, beach and happiness and that alone makes yellow a wardrobe hero in my eyes.

The trick to wear yellow is to stick to the right shade. Mustard and dark yellows look best on light to fair skin tones whilst medium and olive skin tones should go for bright and vibrant yellows whilst almost all shades of yellow suit tanned or dark skin tones.

The beauty of yellow is that it can be easily paired with neutrals or even other fun colours like blue, orange, pink or purple to get a striking statement look. And if you are still in doubt, then you can add yellow accessories like a little clutch, boots or a statement scarf.

Money talks, style doesn’t have to: Rue Lala

Victoria Beckham has done it. Jourdan Dunn has done it. And  so has Hadid sisters. I am of course talking about the athleisure look. The trend took baby steps way back in 2014 (remember my Sports Luxe maternity style post?), kept its head up in 2015, grew stronger in 2016 and now in 2017 does not seem to be dying out. Athleisure, as the name suggests, means combining athletic and leisure apparel that transitions seamlessly from gym to post workout plans and if carefully executed even work.

Obviously, this does mean you take your tatty t-shirt and short shorts and hop around the town. What it means is combining sporty elements to your everyday repertoire. It is about giving your unassuming athletic wear a certain je ne sais quoi charm.

Adidas and British designer Stella McCartney are often touted as the brainchild behind this trend because they had a long-term collaboration long before the term athleisure entered the fashion dictionary. It has grown stronger each year, partly because fitness has become a bigger and more democratic niche and if all the green juices recipes on Instagram and Beyonce’s Ivy Park are anything to go by, fitness is now a very fashionable topic.

The Athleisure trend

All this is very fine and dandy seen from the filters of Insta perfection but how does the athleisure look translate in real-life? I have been toying with this idea for long but every time I felt like styling this look million questions crossed my mind: I am NOT a young celebrity model, I am a mum, I am working mum with 1000 things on her mind, yes, I love fitness (and even burpees) but would I really want to walk around the town in my gym wear?

After a lot of thinking, brainstorming the idea with my friend, I decided like any trend athleisure is also all about personalising it. Whilst I do want to channel my “post workout zen/cool look”à la Gigi Hadid, I also feel the obsession with sweat-wicking leggings, bright sports-bra-cum-crop-tops and white sneakers is definitely not hot news.

To give this trend, my signature feel I have paired my Adidas legging with lace-sleeve sweatshirt, I have added a statement silver necklace and dainty earrings to keep it simple but I have gone way out of my comfort zone with my make-up and hair—double bun and bold lipstick—to seal the deal. Lastly, I have added heels to give it some added oomph. My variation to keep this look strictly casual is to add sneakers, a varsity jacket and a colourful bag.

In the beginning, I have mentioned that this trend can used for work. How? Add a nice, dark blouse, delicate jewellery, blazer, ankle boots/heels and nude makeup to finish the look and voila from slaying that burped you are ready to crash that glass ceiling in one powerful move.

Last but not the least, do not forget the fearless girl stance because ultimately everything boils down to those two things—fearlessness and faith.

Being deeply loved gives you strength, loving deeply gives you courage~Lao Tzu

On Monday morning, I rolled out of the bed with a sudden realisation that I have officially grown up, that one more candle would be added to my birthday cake and that the carefree abandon of youth are things of the past. I did not know whether to laugh or cry or just let be. Honestly, the realisation shook me a bit but then I decided instead of brooding about age, I should smile and celebrate the life I have created for myself.

Off Shoulder Top Fashion

Most of us fear ageing and I am no different but one thing I can assure you: never have I felt so sure of myself. And that is speaking a lot. I was your typical awkward kid with no confidence in herself to speak her mind, shy, reserved and always unsure. At the same time, I was strong-willed and determined but my two personalities were in perpetual conflict with each other.

My mentor-friend wrote these lines once: And destiny shall rip you into pieces to show you what you are made of. This is true for each one of us. Destiny and the fearful thing called age has shown me my inner strength, my vulnerabilities, my sense of adventure and my most important quality: the ability to not let failures and haters take me down.

Transitions can be liberating as well as gruelling. It is a double edged sword which will make you but only after breaking you several times and there is a certain beauty in anyone who time and again make themselves whole again from the broken pieces. It takes audacity and lot of courage.

So, here’s to the broken pieces, the ones you pick to make yourself whole again. Here’s to the ability to transform and mostly here’s to the love that you give and you get despite all the negativities in the world.

Here’s to growing up.

Playing dress up begins at age 5 and never really ends–Kate Spade

Gosh, I cannot believe that this year is almost ending and this is my first post for December 🙁 Truth is, December, has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for me and not because it is the year end. I was unwell for most part of this month, confined to the bed even and piled with work. But hey atleast despite everything I still managed to enjoy my office Christmas party  in style(I do have some awesome colleagues) and I am getting back to my favourite method of unwinding–blogging.

The best part of the festive season (apart from all the presents and the general love and affection amidst people) is of course festive fashion. When it comes to festive fashion (or any other fashion for that matte) my favourite go-to style is dresses. This year, instead of splurging on another new dress (mind you I have done that too) I instead thought of re-styling an old dress.

This maroon-red dress in baroque print dress is my all time favourite and I decided to restyle it for obvious reasons. Red is a colour synonymous with Christmas. Combine it with black and some winter accessories and you have an hands down winner.

Red dresses have spunk, playfulness and just the right bit of sass to make it a clear wardrobe winner. Pair it with classic winter accessories like over the knee high lace boots, polka dot tights, statement necklace, cocktail ring and a delicate bracelet and you are ready to own any dance floor or dinner event.

Dress: Debenhams (old) also like this one from Pretty Little Things, boots: Ego, Beret &snood: New Look, necklace: Mango, Bracelet: Pandora

I have also added a fur snood and beret to earn more chic points as well to make sure that i stay warm without compromising much on style. So my top tip for this festive season fashion would be? A little Red dress and over the knee lace boots 😉

“They laugh at me because I am different; I laugh at them because they are all the same”–Kurt Cobain

It is -3 degree celsius as I write this which means that it is freaking cold, officially. With fog kissed skies, mist laden air and sleet filled streets there is no denial that winters are here to stay.  Brutal winters mean it is all about knits, knits and knits. The knit wear trend is not exactly ground breaking but a necessary evil if you are a huge fan of working limbs and comfort. Although I admit knitwear has gained a bad reputation of being more of a grand-mommy fashion. However, it is good to know that we have some great knitwear including dresses, skirts and cardigans that are flattering, chic yet cosy.

Knitwear/ Sweater Dress trend

This post is all about sweater dress or knit dress. At first, sweater dress can look very intimidating but it can be very versatile, comfortable and chic if done right. The easiest way is to get a sweaterdress in a lightweight knit and pair it with tights and over the knee boots (like I have done here). Put on some interesting accessories like statement necklaces and a colourful bag, a woollen hat, perhaps sunglasses (for peek-a-boo winter sun) and you have an undeniably stylish day outfit.

You could also get a slightly more thicker knit wear and pair it with leggings, riding boots, a waist cinching belt to give you more form. Or throw in layers like a long cardigan or a sleeveless jacket to add some drama. Another option is to wear chunky roll neck dress in neutral colour and add colourful accessories like a short cardigan or scarf and gloves. Pair with boots or wet look leggings plus ankle boots. As I said, this does not have to be intimidating look just step out of your comfort zone and you might be pleasantly surprised.  Sweater/Knit Dress Trend
