“Only great minds can afford a simple style–Stendhal”

Every once in a while, the perfect maxi dress that ticks all the boxes, makes an appearance. When I saw this dress in H &M (that too on sale), I knew I had to have it.

Must have Dress: Maxi dress style

Being 5’4, it is not very easy for me to find a maxi dress which does not drag and always requires heels. So, in my eyes this was already a winner. With its beautiful blooms design, side slits and noodle straps–my favourite detail–this style is perfect of you want a casual dress with some oomph to it.

I have kept it simple here with my trusty golden flats from here, statement earrings and a bracelet. But it can also be worn as evening wear with a well-structured jacket, clutch, heels and statement necklace like choker. And if you are worried about your arms then just add a lace cardigan or a bolero.

Stressed. Depressed. But well dressed–Anonymous

Who would have ever thought that a thing once considered a big fashion no-no would become an ubiquitous trend almost overnight? I am talking about the shirt dress over jeans trend that seems to have swept street style mavericks and Instagrammers. After sitting on the fence for a long time, I too have jumped in this wagon. At first glance, this look seems intimidating and too fashion-y to be pulled off in real life. But here, I will show that this look is easy to achieve and with a dollop of fun (not to mention) ease to it.

Shirt dress over jeans style

In theory the idea of pairing a calf length dress with jeans should not work but as you can see it does. The trick here is to play with proportions, colour and style. The easiest (and in my book the best) way to nail this look is to pair a light weight shirt dress with skinny jeans.

Add nifty accessories like a bracelet, rings, flats and oversized glasses and you have got an effortless casual yet chic style. This look does not have to be casual though, add heels, ripped jeans, a statement jacket and super cute bag (like a geometric clutch) and you have a look for the evening.

Shirtdress+Jeans: Debenhams (also like this one), Flats: India, Accessories: Tenerife/Dubai, Glasses: Hubby’s

I have opted for a casual look here because this was a day trip to Lavender Fields in Surrey (Near London) (More on that later) but I cannot wait to try the night time look to see how I can glam up the humble shirt dress.

A special thanks to my friend Sai for taking some of the photos here and as always my dear hubby as well :0)

Summer is finally here (apparently) and here I will be showing you (once again) what are the trends to try so that you are fashionnably ahead. I recently attended the fashion fix event at Broadstreet Mall (Reading, UK) which showcased a great show about affordable fashion for all age and gender groups.

Prints, Prints and More Prints:

Prints (unsurprisingly) are going to big season. If you know me, you would know that I am already sold. There is nothing like a vibrant, graphic and colourful print that can up the ante of any look without much effort. Pair with single colours for added oomph (and also looking like a Christmas tree is not a great look). Not a fan? Pair printed accessories like a scarf or bag with neutrals.

If you want to know how to pair clashing prints, then check this post out.

Colours:

Orange is definitely the new black (yes even for men) don’t be shy with colours go all out and pair it as you want. For women, pink is the hue of the season thanks to Duchess of Cambridge and her Indian sojourn (remember, the pink dress which practically broke the fashion internet?). I must admit I am particularly pleased with this trend.

Shoulder-baring

fashion trends for Summer 2016

Shoulders are apparently the errogenous zone of the season (yes, it is a thing; no don’t ask me how). Cold shoulder and off shoulder clothes have already hit the high street and is here to stay. I like it very much–it is chic in a nonchalant way as well as effortless without much skin show.

And what did I wear?

A cold shoulder top (trust me I had no idea) with ripped jeans and coral accessories.

Elegance is refusal—Coco Chanel

Of late the Shirt dress has been making fashion waves. It was one of the major styles that was showcased during the fashion week. From Marios Schwab to Christopher Raeburn, the shirt dress was backed up by several major designer. Needless to say, it has become a darling street style trend with several high street players snapping it up.

I purchased this dress, almost a month and half ago and wore it during a glorious sunny day. The shirt dress is equal parts prim and edgy. I have paired my linen, checked shirt dress with navy heels and minimal accessories. I’ve carried a polka dot bag in a similar colour scheme.

The shirt dress is also an extremely versatile piece. Wear it with a belt to show off your curves and create the enviable hour glass or hang it loose if you have a boyish figure and want some volume .

If you are conscious about the length then pair it with cigarette trousers for a chic, head-turning look.

No matter your shape and size, give this style a try and you might be pleasantly surprised. And don’t forget the two best accessories to complete the look—a killer smile and confidence.

Hello, my lovelies. As you can see I am back after almost a month. I finished my paper yesterday and hopefully did well. So, it’s freedom for sometime. I had quite a week. My second post on Huffington Post, has gone viral with over 5K shares just on Facebook. I wrote about an extremely emotive election issue affecting numerous families and people like me in the UK. I am beyond overwhelmed and it has given me some encouragement to write more about serious issues, things that really matter.

Neoprene Dress trend

Anyhow, how have you been all? I honestly missed each one of my blogger friends and readers. But I am back and reading all my favourite blogs 🙂

Neoprene dress trend

Now, back to this style post. As mentioned here, neoprene has become the darling fabric in fashion circles. Once restricted to swimwear and laptop sleeves, these days it has become the go-to material for outwear.

Dress: H&M (sold out, love this one too), Earrings: Accessorise (old), Booties: Asos (old)

I was slightly hesitant to try out this material and picked up this dress from H&M with trepidation. However, the fitted silhouette and the full circle, pleated skirt attracted me to this dress. The spiffy embellishment on it gives it a playful edge too.  I have kept it simple with styling because you don’t want to look like a Christmas tree in such a dress. I have just used statement earrings, a black bracelet and my favourite black booties to seal the look.

Simple yet sensational, don’t you think?
