They say human beings have both masculine and feminine qualities in them. In fashion, nothing reflects this universal truth than the quintessential androgyny look. Androgyny and fashion has been doing the rounds for decades. In fact, Hollywood icon Katherine Hepburn was an early pioneer of this look and appeared frequently in the early 1900’s wearing buttoned down shirts and trousers; the last couple of catwalks have proved that this look is not going to die anytime soon. Boyfriend jeans are an easy way to incorporate this look and I am told it is a style darling favoured by women from all walks of life.

But I have always looked at Boyfriend Jeans with trepidation feeling it will not compliment my curves. I thought I will pass on this style and just enjoy seeing other girls prattle around their “masculine” side. However, in the spirit of experimenting I tried on this uber-cool number and BOY am I hooked?

Nothing excites more than a versatile piece of garment and boyfriend jeans are exactly that. You can dress up or dress down and come up with thousand ways to wear this style.

Look 1: Casual Chic

Here, I’ve paired my jeans with a comfy Tee and leather sandals to keep it casual. A big satchel with polka dots brings an element of playfulness. I’ve added some “girly” accessories like bangles, dangling earrings and a large cocktail ring for some feminine touch.

Look 2: Femme Fatale.

Here, it is all about channelising your inner goddess and yet keeping the focus on the boy friend jeans. I love the white on white look and this is my own rendition to this trend. A white casual blazer should be a wardrobe essential; it screams of understated sophistication. Throw in some accessories and shoes in eye popping colours like coral and you will feel every bit like a Femme Fatale.

Of the two, my favourite is definitely the second look but I can totally see myself pulling the first one when I’ve to run to do errands or simply do some mall-walking.

And to all the girls who think their curves will not let them try this look. Pish-Posh. If you have it rock it 😉

Every girl worth her fashionable salt would agree that a white shirt is the indisputable prince in a wardrobe that will never let her down. But, as we all know we have to kiss many frogs before finding and settling with our prince. For years, I kissed many frogs that is experimented with many white shirts only to abruptly end the relation with it. I thought I will have to live happily ever after without this prince of a shirt.

But then, my real life prince showed me this crisp, well-fitting, white number from Gap and as soon as I tried it on….I knew I have fallen hard for it.

There are of course numerous ways to style a white shirt but my favourite is the all time classic way of pairing it with blue denim. To give it my own twist, I have accessorised  with some earthy gold numbers like the earrings and the bangles, a great pair of heels in rose gold and bright bag for some colour (old habits die hard!)

Happy weekend

Weekends mean an extra dose of well-deserved laziness. Sleeping till the late hours, gorging on some warm brunch and sauntering around the park. My attire too takes on a “relaxed” approach during weekends because let’s face it–we all deserve a break 🙂

It is all about embracing your casual side and letting (for once) comfort take the lead. Here, I’ve combined a playful polka dot blouse with a classic blue jeans. A comfy pair of shoes will take you through the park to the mall and all the way to coffee with friends in an understated style

Fashion has such a lovely habit of repeating itself. One of the top trends for Spring/Summer 2013 is neon. But did you know that Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli  first popularised “shocking pink” fashions in 1937? The 1980s saw a revival of neon colours when it was used in everything from skirts to jackets and now in 2013 it seems neon is here to stay.

A bright pop of colour that can elevate any look and really make you stand out of the crowd. I don’t even remember if it really left the fashion fabric but the present take on it is to keep it feminine, sophisticated and balanced.

As a person who loves colours, I couldn’t be happier but I would definitely stay away from really bright bordering on garish neon and go for slightly-washed look. Here’s how:

Image

As balancing is the key here, I have balanced this neon pink skirt with a well-fitting striped T-shirt (combing the two key trends of this season neon+stripes).

A balloon skirt might not be the most-flattering silhouette for a curvy, hour-glassed girls like me but what to do if you are an impulsive shopper? I’ve thrown a dark blazer to balance out the proportions. Bunching the sleeves of the blazer like this gives it an added edge don’t you think?

And here’s some trivia about Neon. The term was first coined in 1898 and pop-culture guru Andy Warhol used a silk screen pink neon cow design in 1966.

Now, would you be joining the Neon Bandwagon and how would you make this trend your own? Do share your thoughts.

P.S. Please do share your thoughts so I know I am not talking to a void 😉
