Love, the fickle little thing

like a pack of cards

hangs by a delicate thread.

One cruel word,

One indifferent act

And it all comes crumbling down.

But at least  we can take respite

We once did feel the glorious

Feeling of Love.

Yes, Love and other things

A roller-coaster ride

A joyous, little pain

That’s Love and other things.

Today’s guest post is rather special simply because she is special. She was my former editor (in India). I joined the team as a curious cub writer and she took me under her wings. Since then she has become my friend, my mentor and my confidant. Rajashree Balaram (Associate Editor with Femina) is a wonderful person and writer extraordinaire who made me fall in love for the second time….with words and the beauty one can create with it. Over to you Rajji 😀

I like it when I smell a bit of lemon and pepper on those fingers that have just switched off the kitchen light. I am happy when hair rinsed clean by shampoo still gives a hint of herbs and coconut. Or when your neck smells of salt even when you have washed the beach away under the shower. I like it when you hold a man close, and the warmth of his skin lingers deeper than his deodorant. I love the adorable smell that babies have around their mouth that no powder puff can take away. Or when the white lilies in the vase fill up my room with their scent even though they are dying. I like it that with every breath I take, life gives me so many little things to live for.

Standing at the airport tarmac,

I remembered the days when our lives entered a hallmark

My heart refreshed the stories of the days spent in goodness

O’ the glorious four days

When we decided the two of us should be one.

Do you remember those beautiful moments?

When like Siamese twins

We were together

From dawn till dusk

Throughout the morning till the twilight

You held my hands, I smiled

We exchanged words

Celebrated silences

Stole glances, oblivious to the moving world.

Under the starry skies amidst the cool breezes

We kissed softly

While my raven tresses caressed your face

People came, people went

But the world was lost to us,

Amidst the bright shining meadow

I gave you my neck to

Mangle, tangle, bite and taste

Inside the rickety auto

We held hands lost in each other’s eyes

We were in love

Gloriously in Love.

Like all good things, the days came to an end

You left, promising to return soon.

I smiled bravely telling you I am strong

But my eyes did cry a river

When the shadow of your body

The outline of your skin

Became a tiny dot

In the airport horizon.

Standing at the airport tarmac

My heart tells me you will come

And we will once again live

The magic of our togetherness 🙂

I like  how your eyes drink me when I am looking away,

How your fingers caress my unruly curls when I sleep,

The way you speak my thoughts, without me saying a word,

And how your laughter fills me with joy when everything else seems lost 🙂

Sometimes when our eyes meet, I easily leave the whole world behind me.

When we kiss, I often wish that time should stop right away.

I’ve many insecurities, many things that scare me

But when you hold me in your arms; I feel I have reached the safest spot.

It really annoys me that you can read my mind and see the deepest depths of my heart.

You are not an average knight in the shining armour.

Heck, you are not even average.

Because you give me wings to fly.

Your pride in me makes me dance with joy.

You never stop in letting me be me.

I know you will love me when the twinkle of my eyes

will get replaced with the wisdom of age.

When my dark, cascading waves will get peppered with grey.

When my body will have seen the ravages of passing years.

You show me

that the best attitude in life

is not to have any.
