I have been hemming and hawing about the much coveted ESPA facial. As I mentioned here, I have been having a lot of issues with skin. My skin is not only prone to spots but also tends to look tired and dull if I miss out on TLC. Hence, when the man of the house, Mr. Husband, gifted me a spa day at Blu Radisson, London along with ESPA facial I was beyond chuffed.

On my birthday, I reached Blu Radisson and quickly slipped on to the robe and headed for a well-deserving pampering and relaxation session. My first stop was at the really, really hot sauna hot. I could barely be there for ten minutes but I soldiered on. Regular sauna has several benefits: it flushes out toxins, strengthens immune system and helps in muscle recovery (a must for gym rats and sports people). What makes the Sauna at Blu Radisson special is the ice fountain next to it. You can use it in conjugation with the steam/sauna or alone at the end. The hot and cold cycle of sauna and ice (on my skin) really rejuvenated my skin and opened all the pores making it supple and brighter.

Once this was done, I was taken to the relaxation room. Now, relaxation is a must for busy mums like me. Have you heard of a relaxed and calm mum? I bet not because it is an oxymoron. To help me in the relaxation process, I was green a hot cuppa of mint tea and some tasty (and healthy) snacks. I was left alone in the room with a meditative music playing in the back ground. Now, any health nut worth their carefully cultivated Himalayan salt would agree this would relax even the haywire mind (like mine). Before I knew it, I closed my eyes and drifted to a zen like state (which was certainly new to me).

My honest review of Espa facial and skin care range

Next came the Holy Grail of pampering—the ESPA facial. My therapist came and took me into another room. All the ESPA facial products were kept there and for a fleeting second I tried to look nonchalant about it. However, I miserably failed as I was extremely excited to try this facial. My therapist asked me about my skin concerns and acknowledged it all with a smiling face. Next thing I know I was plopped on the bed and she took the scrub deftly starting the massage.

This facial is designed to brighten under-par skin, and bring it back to life using lots of ESPA’s new Tri-Active Advanced Instant Facial serum. The relaxing massage soothed my perpetually frayed nerves and unblocked the stress knots on my forehead, neck and back. Finally, the therapist applied a cellulose mask which sets off like a jelly and once you peel it off you would get a happier, hydrated and healthier skin.

I can honestly say ESPA facial would be one of the best facials you would ever do. Even two days, my hubby and friends commented how hydrated and fresh my face looks. And any busy, tired woman would tell you that is the best compliment you can get ever. 🙂

It is the festive season finally and perhaps the best time to indulge in a bit of sparkle. As far as seasonal trends are concerned, one trend that has caught my eye is the molten metallics one. No, we are not talking about a war-zone here but metallic shades swept over eyes, cheeks and (if you have the audacity for it) even the lips. From Alexander McQueen to Donna Karan metallic shades were given a go this AW14. I road-test this trend and see how it translates in real life.

Here,I’ve used an icy shade of silver on my eyelids. The colour is from Rimmel’s Glam Eyes Quad Eyeshadow (silver shade) range. I have used it generously on my eyelids and a wee bit on my brow bone. To hide my dark circles (thanks to an active baby) I have used a wee bit of concealer on the bottom. I have used some kohl and mascara to seal the look.

My Verdict: I tend to take the safe route when it comes to eye shadows sticking to shades of brown and pink so this is way out of comfort zone but surprisingly it works. Who does not love a bit of sparkle and if you can use it on your eyes to give it a bit of shine yet an earthy appeal then why not? Bottom line: this is a trend that can be easily incorporated into real life. Hands down winner this festive season.

If you have been following me for a while, you would probably know that I have a slight obsession with kohl, eyeliners and eye pencils. If you want to buy just one thing for your make-up closet then it should be a black kohl. Nothing is more mesmerizing than eyes can that can speak volumes and a black kohl is just the tool you need to get magnificent pair of eyes. This Spring/Summer black eyeliner ruled the runways like never before. Black eyes means drama, enigma and plenty of attitude. This year from Carven to Missoni to Stella McCartney, black was given a raw and rebellious edge. I loved the black eyeliner look as showcased at Just Cavalli show. It was effortlessly urban and actually quite easy to do. I try to see how this look translates in real life.

As you probably know, I hate using a plethora of products whilst re-creating a look. Here, I’ve used just three products too: Maybelline Eye studio Gel liner, Maybelline Eye Studio Master and Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Mascara.

Take the gel liner first, starting from the inner corner of your eyes make a thin line on the top lid. Stop as you reach the outer corner. Next take the kohl pencil and apply a line on your lower water line. Then apply a bit outside waterline and smudge it slightly with the other end, a cotton bud or your fingers. The smudge effect will give you a lived-in appearance. Seal the look with lashings of the mascara. Voila the look is done.

My verdict: This look has enough drama and pizzazz. The lived-in, slightly messy appearance gives this look an extra punch. It instantly lends you an irresistible appeal and charm. Hence, this is a look that will great in real life just as it looked great on the runway.

I give this look my full approval for its ease and the fact that it gives you an almost ethereal look. 🙂

As a busy mum, I don’t have the luxury to go to a nail saloon to get my nails done. I am also super-paranoid of putting an array of products on my nails lest I’ve to use my fingers to soothe the little one. I was gifted Baylis and Harding’s Skin Spa set comprising hand salts and hand cream and I’ve used this for my express manicure.

manicure at home tutorial

For this express manicure, simply put the salts in some warm water and soak your hand for sometime. With a soft brush gently clean your nails and with a nail filer buff your nails.

After that give your hands a nice massage with the intensive hand cream.

The hand salt and cream has a delicious smell of basil and lime. As soon as you open the cream, this lovely aroma wafts and fills your senses. There is a hint of sugar cane too, sugar cane is well-known for its moisturizing properties. True to its name, the cream really gives your hands intense moisture and a lovely aroma that stays for hours. I am  definitely in love with this nifty little product that gives Spa-like care at home.

When I was a kid, one of my favourite hobbies was to rummage through my mum’s bag as soon as she got home from work. For me, her bag was like treasure box, I would be delighted to find office notes, pen, her kohl, a lipstick etc. I would then take her bag and try to walk around our home in her little-too-big heels.  I think my love for bags, kohl  and other beautiful things started because of her. Today, as an adult there are certain things that you would always find in my bag.

Hand Bag essentials

In my bag, you will always find: a hand cream, compact a lip gloss or lipstick, a lip balm, tissues, hand sanitizer, kohl and a comb. As a book worm, I also almost always carry a book because you know commuting can be a tedious task.

What are your hand bag essentials? Would love to know.

Bag: Satchel Company, Compact: Body Shop, Lip balm: Body Shop, Hand cream: Body Shop, Kohl: Maybelline Smoky, Lip gloss: Revlon, Tissues: Kleenex, Hand Sanitizer: Mum and Me.
