I have never ever worn head to toe black but having seen Londoners pulling this look so well, I must say I’ve been tempted many times. But something always kept me back. Not anymore, eighty days postpartum I am convinced this is a great look.

black on black

Head to toe black has just the right amount of mystery, class and sophistication.

Here, I’ve paired a black lace midi with a black shirt. I have used black-silver accessories to go with the look and a little black clutch and black heels to seal the number.

When I was a kid, one of my favourite hobbies was to rummage through my mum’s bag as soon as she got home from work. For me, her bag was like treasure box, I would be delighted to find office notes, pen, her kohl, a lipstick etc. I would then take her bag and try to walk around our home in her little-too-big heels.  I think my love for bags, kohl  and other beautiful things started because of her. Today, as an adult there are certain things that you would always find in my bag.

Hand Bag essentials

In my bag, you will always find: a hand cream, compact a lip gloss or lipstick, a lip balm, tissues, hand sanitizer, kohl and a comb. As a book worm, I also almost always carry a book because you know commuting can be a tedious task.

What are your hand bag essentials? Would love to know.

Bag: Satchel Company, Compact: Body Shop, Lip balm: Body Shop, Hand cream: Body Shop, Kohl: Maybelline Smoky, Lip gloss: Revlon, Tissues: Kleenex, Hand Sanitizer: Mum and Me.

Mummyhood (I just coined the term) is a very tough and busy job which can sometimes (actually most times) leave you looking like a train wreck. Here are my beauty cheats that will make you look like a million dollars even though you feel bone tired and just want to be under a nice duvet for the rest of eternity.

beauty cheats for busy mum

1) Clinique Uplifting Liquid Illuminator: This is perhaps one of the few products that I can genuinely not live without. True to its word, it really uplifts your face. Mix it with your foundation/CC cream for an over all glow or use it as a bronzer either ways you will look like you have had a well-rested night (which obviously you haven’t).

2) Bodyshop Peppermint foot spray: Chances are you will be on your toes all the day. Needless to say, your feet would show signs of tiredness too. This cooling spray will rejuvenate and give them an instant freshness.

3) Batiste Dry Shampoo: Most days I don’t have the luxury of gloriously shampooing and conditioning my hair. Batiste Dry Shampoo is my go to product to get instantly fresh and clean hair.

4) Simple Eye balm: One thing I realised after becoming a mom is that puffy, tired eyes is part of the job. This soothing eye balm by Simple freshens and relaxes my eyes and is even keeping dark circles at bay.

5) Olay CC cream: The CC cream is the best alternate to foundation and a tad bit better than moisturizer; most also come with SPF which means you don’t need another product on your face.

6) Kohl: Busy Mom or not, a good flick of kohl is sometimes the only thing you need to look great. Even on days I  don’t put anything on my face, I still use kohl and it lightens up my face instantly. My favourite is Mac’s Designer Purple.

7) Lipstick: Just like kohl, lipstick is another great thing to use when you have to dash out and look fresh in less than a minute. My favourite one is Mac’s Up the Amp

8) Perfume: Another thing I realized after becoming a mom is that I also don’t have the luxury of taking long, relaxing bath. Hence, spritzing on some perfume is not only a great way to feel fresh but smell great too. My current favourite is Calvin Klein CKIN2U

9) Lip balm: Another quick and easy way to give some TLC to your lips is to keep applying lip balm. I have lip balms in every other nook and cranny of my home. I love the Grace Cole as I had mentioned here

These are my beauty cheats for anyone living a busy life. What are yours? Would love to hear.

PS: This post is not sponsored, I have brought all the above products except the lip balm.

I do consider myself a truly Global person. But once in a while, I don’t mind going back to my Indian roots.

Indian summer: how to dress anarkali

The Anarkali is a long, full-skirted dress that you wear over Churidar i.e. legging like trousers. A matching long scarf is added to most ensembles.

I’ve accessorized it with simple jewelry like statment earrings, bangles and a cocktail ring because sometimes you should let the outfit speak for itself.

Indian fashion

The beauty of this outfit is that it has a touch of an ethnic appeal yet looks quite modern. A win-win situation at least for me.

Dress: Mum’s gift, Pouch bag: MIL’s gift, Shoes: Marks and Spence (old, flat option here), Statement earrings: Debenhams, Bangles: H&M.

Happy Wednesday. Hope you enjoyed this post on Indian fashion. Thanks for reading and do show me your love with your likes and comments or better still go ahead and make my day by following me. I follow back 🙂

One of my favourite authors, Roald Dahl had famously stated,”Those who don’t believe in magic, will never find it.” Luckily, I do and last Saturday (07.06.2013) at 2:10 PM, I and hubby had the most magical moment of our lives when I brought to this world our roaring little princess.

Since then we have felt unprecedented, naked almost electric joy. A joy that no material comfort, money or achievement can ever bring. People ask me how’s the process of childbirth? And my answer is–it is transformative.

Your body goes through such a shocking journey whilst in labour that you would have greater respect for it. Its ability to slowly bring out the little life, its ability to contract and expand. But the change doesn’t stop there. It is emotional and spiritual too.

When you really, really strive that you would be a better person,a better example to your baby from day one. And yet in a strange way it makes you more vulnerable too.

Every time, my precious little one cries, my heart and my strong spirit dies thousand deaths. But fortunately, my lovely hubby and birthing partner knows how to calm this big baby down. I have also realised I would never need any drug or anything else to feel  inebriated. Her presence is quite intoxicating.  Sleeplessness and exhaustion (for both me and hubby) has been quite real. Sometimes, I feel I won’t be able survive another day but then she looks at me with her ginormous eyes and everything feels aces.

As a new mum, I have also felt a range of emotions: happiness, awe and even doubt. And in one of those moments of doubt, my precious little one the other day gave me a smile (or something resembling one) as if to re-assure me and say, “Don’t worry mum, we both are new to this and we both will do great.

So to all the mums out there–don’t worry you are doing great.

Thank you for reading my first post after delivery. Hope you enjoyed it. Please do give me your likes and comments. Have a great weekend.
